The two artists endeavored to develop new production techniques and improvements in the manufacture of crystal glass. One pioneering method was the introduction of a new etching technique that allowed the surface of the glass to be more finely textured - almost like velvet. Together with glassmaker Knut Bergqvist, they developed the so-called Gral technique: an etched glass is heated and then coated with new glass mass, giving the product an almost three-dimensional look.
In the 1930s, artists Sven Palmqvist and Edvin Ohrström used their creative energies to develop elaborate processing techniques called Ravenna and Ariel. Until the 1970s, Orrefors was a leader in the field of art glass and enjoyed worldwide recognition. The brand became famous for its design and outstanding glass quality, particularly in goblets and decorative glassware. Orrefors' legacy in crystal glass lives on today through the impressive and fine products that the company offers.
What is the difference between normal glass and crystal glass?
The difference between normal glass and crystal glass lies primarily in their chemical composition and how they are produced. Normal glass is made from a mixture of sand, lime and soda, while crystal glass also contains potassium carbonate or zinc oxide. The addition of these raw materials gives crystal glass its special brilliance and light refraction.
Another difference lies in the purity of the material. Crystal glass is much purer than normal glass, as it is produced using a complex melting process in which impurities are removed. This gives crystal glass its high transparency and clarity.
Processing also plays a role. Crystal glass is often cut and polished by hand to achieve its characteristic faceting and shine. Normal glass, on the other hand, is usually produced by machine and has a smooth surface.
Normal glass and crystal glass also differ in terms of their properties. Due to the higher lead content, crystal glass is heavier than normal glass and sounds different when struck. It is also more resistant to breakage.
In general, the main difference between normal glass and crystal glass lies in their chemical composition, purity, processing and optical properties. While normal glass is used for many everyday purposes, crystal glass is mainly used for high-quality tableware, jewelry or decorative items.

Partial deliveries
We deliver your order completely. If products with different delivery times are ordered, we can make a free partial delivery within Germany (minimum value per partial delivery €49.00). Please contact us separately if you want a partial delivery. Partial deliveries outside Germany are not possible.
Delivery time display
The delivery times within Germany are displayed on the detail pages of the products and in the shopping cart. In addition, the availability of the products is indicated in the automatic order confirmation e-mail. For deliveries abroad you have to add the longer delivery time of the packages to the delivery time. If you choose the payment method "Prepayment", the delivery will be delayed by 1-2 business days due to the payment process.
The delivery time of your entire order is determined by the product with the longest delivery time. Products that are not "In stock" will be ordered for you from the manufacturer. If unexpected delivery delays occur, you will be informed separately.
Switzerland and non-EU countriess
Swiss customers and non-EU customers do not pay the German VAT (19%) and will receive a net invoice. The VAT is levied on the country, mostly by the customs authorities.
