Since 1856 high quality cutlery from Gense

In 1856, Gustav Eriksson founded the Gense company west of Stockholm in Eskilstuna. Initially, the company produced stoves and coffee burners. In 1885 the production of silver and nickel articles began and in 1915 the company started silver cutlery production. Since 1930 stainless steel cutlery has been produced. In the 1940s, the small Swedish company hired industrial designer and artist Folke Arström as chief designer, who made typical Scandinavian design possible for cutlery as well, and thanks to his prudence and creativity, was able to achieve great success for the company.

Gense becomes a traditional brand

Born in Stockholm in 1907, silver smith Folke Arström belonged to the first generation of Swedish industrial designers. Under his leadership, the famous classics Focus de Luxe, Thebe and Attaché were created. Furthermore, he collaborated with freelance designers such as Henning Seidelin, who designed the cutlery Pantry and Steel Line. Young Bent Severin designed the classic cutlery Old Farmer and silversmith and professor Pierre Forssell designed the beautifulön items now sold under the Retro name.

Später were also followed by designs by famous glass designers such as Bertil Vallien (Kosta Boda), who is responsible for the cutlery series called Figura, or the series Intra, which is a design by Ingegerd Råman (Orrefors). The most recent success of the traditional Swedish brand is the cutlery series Dorotea by Monica Förster from 2011.
