Ekelund - Home textiles, with great tradition in every thread
With over 450 years of company history, the Swedish brand Ekelund is one of the oldest weaving mills in the world. The fact that the home textiles company is now being run by the eleventh generation of the family and is still successful is anything but a coincidence. The master weavers are deeply rooted in the Swedish design tradition. Thus, the innovative home textiles are backed up by solid Scandinavian values and delight their customers not only with quality, but equally with highly valuable understatement.
Master Weavers 1692
The story of the Swedish family business which is today run by Per Ekelund is somewhat shrouded in mystery. However, there was evidence that the ancestors of the Ekelund family, the Larssons, had a textile trade as early as the middle of the 16th century. This fame persisted, although this trade was still forbidden in the early modern times. In 1692, with Ingemar Larsson, everything was put on a legal even keel. Close to the Swedish town of Borås, the crafty businessman first had cotton processed into fabrics and established structures reminiscent of an early weaving mill.
A long journey - a success story
Several centuries later, Ekelund is one of the long-established, large Scandinavian brands with modern production in the town of Horred in western Sweden. There, all our home textiles, which include, for example, tea towels, table linen and placemats with strikingly beautiful patterns, are woven and produced. Of course, under the aegis of the responsible designer Britt-Marie Henriksson, the patterns, pictures and motifs for the high-quality fabrics that the company uses for its products are also created. These are created by various designers from Sweden, Scandinavia and around the world. Renowned design greats are just as likely to feature as newcomers or particularly talented design school graduates. According to the company philosophy, the home textiles by Ekelund should never just rely on their prestigious reputation. Textiles are either high quality and beautiful - or they are not. The name of the designer is secondary.
Special vertical integration and exceptional fabric quality
Ekelund believes that quality is a cornerstone of the company's long-standing success. For this reason, tablecloths and dishcloths use fabrics bearing the seal of the Swedish Society for Environmental Protection, thus proving their sustainability. Many fabric fibres also come from closely monitored organic farming.
The type of production also confirms the concept of quality that Ekelund home textiles promise. Large parts of the collections are woven according to our own 6-colour pixel weaving technique. With only one set-up process of warp and weft, all kinds of patterns and colours can be woven with excellent contours. This process is a further development of the Rainbow technique. In itself, this was already an innovative method which revolutionised the production of dishcloths, tea towels, runners, light plaids or placemats under Christer Ekelund. Up to 6 colours simultaneously flow into the weave, which makes a great variety possible and guarantees a particularly brilliant pattern. Of course, these unique processes are absolute unique selling points of the company and patented accordingly.
