Bengt & Lotta – two graphic artists from Sweden

The cast iron products from the Bengt & Lotta brand, which are reminiscent of paper cut-outs, already have cult status in Sweden and have been very popular here for many years. What is special about the work of Swedish designers Bengt Lindberg & Lotta Glave, who have already designed for numerous other well-known design brands, is the reduction to two dimensions and one colour. The candlesticks, napkin holders and wall hooks are full of creative shapes and blessed with a good dose of humour. The popular motifs include animals or everyday scenes between people who are close to one another. The angel created by Lotta, which is used in a variety of ways, is also well known. The range has now been expanded to include other great items, which also feature colourful illustrations of the duo, who were already a couple during their studies.

Lindberg and Glave

Bengt Lindberg created new forms with a nod to traditional Swedish folk art. His designs are at the same time playful and very graphically minded. It all started with a cast-iron candlestick featuring the shape of a cow. This was followed by a sheep and a horse and the moose, exceptionally popular in Germany. It was indeed with the Swedish national animal that he made his breakthrough in 1991, and by now it is available in many variations. Bengt's moose can also be found on products from Klippan Yllefabrik or Røros Tweed.

Lotta Glave wants her products to radiate cheerfulness and humour. They are all intended to be uniquely different and tell a complete story. Before working as a designer, the student of graphic arts and illustration from Malmö was employed by Dagens Nyheter – one of Sweden's major daily newspapers. It all started when Bengt asked her to draw an angel, which soon became widespread and popular as a candlestick and Christmas tree decoration, but also as a necklace and on various fabrics. Today, Lotta is responsible for most of the design duo's new illustrations. Her patterns are treasured around the world and are hugely popular, not least in Japan.
