Aarikka - Finnish cult for a happy home
When Pauliina Aarikka was studying at the Institute of Industrial Arts in Helsinki and designing a dress, she just couldn't find the right buttons to complement it perfectly. So Pauliina simply designed them herself. From a first small series of cheerful, colorful buttons, a charming jewelry collection quickly emerged. In 1954, from these beginnings, Aarikka was born as a company and has now enriched Finnish households for over 60 years. Internationally, Aarikka is soon a household name and becomes a success first in Scandinavia and later throughout Europe. Today, in addition to Scandinavian fashion and special wooden jewelry, the assortment revolves around loving figures made of wood: the gnomes Tonttu, Pakkanen, funny hens and hens as well as cute rabbits have long since conquered the shelves, cabinets and sideboards of this world and are sure to make everyone in your home great joy.
Already in the late 50s, the label Aarikka came in great; fashion in Finland. And this has not changed until today. Aarikka is characterized by the handwriting of Pauliina Aarikka, the daughter of the company's founder Kaija. The design is characterized by clean, Scandinavian lines, round shapes and wood as a material. Each piece is an individual work of art, which carries a piece of Finnish soul. Many well-known designers have already worked for the label. The idea of sustainability and social commitment includes not only the production of wood and short distances in the production: In loving handwork, unique jewelry, gnomes, Christmas and Easter decorations and other hearty design products are created in workshops for the disabled.
Bright colors, cozy and joy
Tonttu is a Finnish elf protects the house and familiy. Once he's settled in your house, he'll take care of your dishes, dusting and the rest of the housework. If you treat Tonttu well, the elf will make your house a home that radiates comfort. For this, he is entitled to a meal and the residual heat of the sauna. Too noisy children do not like the gnome. This makes it a popular roommate, especially for Finnish parents, who can be referred to if the noise level exceeds normal. The importance of a tonttu is also illustrated by the Finnish expression: „Tonttu sillä on, Tonttu kantaa“ which means „He who has wealth, has a Tonttu in the house“. The elf Joulutonttu is also deeply rooted in Finnish Christmas culture, as Santa's diligent helpers watch in the run-up to Christmas to see if the children have been good and deserve presents. Aarikka Elf Tonttu, Pakkanen and others are thus living history at its most beautiful and absolutely cult in Scandinavia.
