Georg Jensen Christmas Ornaments 2017 by Alfredo Häberli

In 2017 the Swiss designer Alfredo Häberli was commissioned to design the collection. Häberli has become known for his designs such as Origo and Essence for the Finnish design brand Iittala. In 2011 he worked first time for the Danish luxury label Georg Jensen. When Häberli was given the task of designing the collection 2017, he thought about what he had to do with Christmas. At first, Alfredo thought of his childhood in Argentina. The whole family used to get together at the Christmas tree in the hotel of his grandparents. Alfredo loved the Swiss tradition, although he found this custom a bit odd without snow in the middle of summer in Argentina. In the revelation of his childhood memories, he tried to compile the most important symbols for the Georg Jensen series which he associates with Christmas. These were a star, a glass ball, the Three Kings, Santa Claus, and angels which have always fascinated him as a child.

He chose the angel as the most important symbol for the Christmas Collection 2017 of the renowned Danish brand. He designed decorative openings around the angel that depict the starry skies or snowflakes. Häberli says about his design "You have something special that will hopefully make you smile and warm your heart. If that is your reaction, then I have succeeded with my work!"
