Architectmade – design classic from Denmark
Architectmade is a young company from Copenhagen. They made it their task, to relaunch Danish design classics that have not been produced meanwhile. Therefore, the young team searches archives, looks through old newspapers and combs through museums. The founders of the label are always looking for designs here, that offer everything to become a classic, but that may have been forgotten over the years. For the label, this means the renunciation from a disposable society to more sustainability. This sustainability starts with timeless designs for the founders. Architectmade grew from a project to a passion, a collection, a brand and an absolute obsession, that today has an extraordinary product palette with a precise production depth.
The architects of the brand
The brand characterizes the creators of the newly launched designs as architects. Those architects are sometimes designer or further artists. Not seldom those are stars of Scandinavian design, in whose drawers undiscovered or forgotten drafts are waiting until the makers of Architectmade discover them once again. One of the designers of the label is one of the most famous Danish architects ever: Finn Juhl was born in 1912, was educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and advanced in the 1950s to an architect much in demand, who was able to design a hall in the UN headquarters in New York as a present from Denmark to the UNO. To this day, the hall is known as “Finn Juhl Chamber”. He contributed for example the tablet turning or a coffee service FJ essence, which consists of a coffee pot, a cup, a saucer and a sugar pot to the range of the young Danish design brand.
Small cute figures
Architectmade is most famously known for its visibly elaborate figures made of wood. The company pays close attention to detail in the making process. Everything is produced in Denmark. Every piece of wood is hand-picked. Every product is audited three times before it leaves the manufacture, which mainly produces by manual labour.
Designer Hans Bølling – a formative character of the golden age of Danish design – already drafted figures for his family and friends in the 1950s and 1960s. Today, the dogs Rufus, Bobby and Oscar delight the whole world. Not any less popular and of course a part of the Architectmade collection are the duck figures Duck and Duckling, the parrot family Discus and the trolls Strit, Optimist and Pessimist, who also spring from Bøllings feather. For the repertoire of the decorative figures, the brand also made a find with other designers, which is proven by the bird family by Kristian Vedel, which the Danish industrial designer drew in 1959. A friend of Hans Bølling, designer Paul Anker Hansen contributed his owl figures “owl” to the assortment.

Because Architectmade did not limit its passion for design treasuries to certain products, further products found their way into the brand’s assortment. Those are, for example, the miniature ash tray PK-Mini by Paul Kjærholm or the impressive candleholder Gemini by Peter Karpf, as well as the tumbler Spring based on a draft by Jørn Utzon.
